Oblivion
Nelson Hernandez III
Ask anybody who plays games what their favorite game is. You won’t get the same answer for the same two people. For me, and many other people, it’s the game “Oblivion”. This game is great. I mean it is just amazing. I can’t come to mention anything that could even possibly be bad about this particular game. Well, let me stop praising this and let me tell you about how great it is so that you can like it for yourself. First of all, the graphics are out of this world. When you play this game you feel like you’re really in the actual game! It has even won awards for it! On top of that, the overall game play is just spectacular. The controls are well suited the game, and it makes playing much easier. Besides the overall appearance of the game, there are plenty more things to cover. The actual storyline of the game is phenomenal. You play as a character that you have created who has been imprisoned for reasons unknown. Eventually you come into contact with the Emperor who happens to cross your path while trying to escape from a group of assassins who are trying to kill him. After fighting your way through the underground sewers of the prison, you eventually get to the end. However, along the way, the Emperor entrusts you to find is last surviving heir before he dies, which sends you on a great quest to bring safety to the land of Tamriel. This game also includes tons of side quests that you happen to find along your way. You also get to choose the kind of class that you will have. Wither it be a warrior, a wizard, or an archer, your abilities that you gain or buy help you along your way, or during battle. Not to long after its release, it came out with two new expansions of the game on a separate disk. They include “The Shivering Isles, which included an additional realm in the game that you can access from a portal in the middle of the ocean. In this realm, there are crazy things happening everywhere. From giant monsters attacking small villages, or insane inhabitants lost in their own mind, you will discover tons of new quests, items, and enemies to fight along your way to help and eventually become the Madgod of the realm. The second one included a new quest line called, “The Knights of the Nine”, were you start a pilgrimage after a massacre at a church to altars across the nation. Eventually, you gain all of the lost relics of the crusaders, and defeat the evil demon trying to destroy the universe.

The Orange Box
This particular game took on a whole new aspect on video gaming. To people, this was a great idea. If you don’t know what The Orange Box is, it’s a single video game CD with three different games all by the same developer, called “Valve”. It contains “Portal”, were use the technology of a portal device to make your way through puzzle like levels. In “Team Fortress 2”, you play a series of team oriented games like capture the flag or king of the hill online with your friends or random people you don’t know. Lastly, in “Half Life 2”, you play as a man trying to escape from prison in a futuristic setting, and lead a rebellion against your enemies. It’s a very cool idea for a video, and incorporates new ideas that make the game so much better to play.
Bioshock
Nelson Hernandez III
Bioshock was released in 2007, and to this day is still one of the most popular games in existence. You play as a man lost at sea when his air plane crash lands, and find an entrance to an underwater city called Rapture. However, this city is not one you would want to visit anytime soon. This place is crawling with tons of nasty enemies. Things like Splicers, which are human in a physical form, but are deformed and have special abilities depending on what kind of Splicer you are facing. There are Little Sisters, which are guarded by giant genetically enhanced humans crafted to armor diving suits called “Big Daddys”. They protect the Little Sisters in hope of getting a genetic mutagen called Adam. Adam is used to upgrade genetic powers called Plasmids, which gives you an upper hand against enemies by using the powers you can gain from Plasmids like lightning, and fire. Plasmids aren’t your only weapons though. Along the way you will find an assortment of weapons from pistols to grenade launchers that you can upgrade to increase there abilities. Also there are tons of robots that you can hack to control and fight for you. Over the course of the game, you are guided by a man named Atlas who helps you survive the hazardous city of Rapture. There will be a new addition to the Bioshock frenchise soon were you play as a Big Daddy, so expect another reveiw soon.

Nelson Hernandez III
The new sequel to one of the number one hit games of all time is soon to be here! The original version of this game was about a small island with cities infested with gang members who terrorize citizens and break tons of laws. You played as a super agent sent to eliminate all authority and boss members in the gang. Only after you killed the bosses could you take down the entire gang. The city featured three extremely different gangs, and each one was harder than the next. You had to defeat the lesser gangs to eventually take out the main boss and clear the island for the law enforcements, and bring safety to all of the inhabitants.

The most anticipated game of 2009 is soon to be here. Left 4 dead 2 is to be launched on November 17, and is said to be much better than the original.
Last year, some of you may remember me reviewing the first version of this game. Left 4 dead was a great game, and consociated of many fun elements. It involved team work, communication, and great listening skills. For some people, this game is very scary, however, for some this game is no sweat. This game involves zombies. Tons of zombies. So many zombies that you may go insane trying to play this game. On top of having regular zombies, you may also incounter special zombies. These zombies have special abilities that make the game much trickier to play. There are five types of special zombies and the object of this game is to go through the game and survive countless zombie hoards and make it to the safe room at the end of each level. Left 4 dead 2 is set in New Orleans in the day time, and features new special zombies. This game includes 4 new characters, and offers tons of new weapons varing from sledge hammers and fire axes, to frying pans and skateboards!

Arificial Retinas Restore Sight
Nelson Hernandez III
Scientists and researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have recently developed an artificial retina that could restore perfect vision to the blind. They plug it directly into optic nerve and stops progressive diseases witch can eventually lead to blindness unless it is treated immediately. Some drugs are proven to slow the process down, but when the cells are dead, they cannot be replaced. Implants usually cannot restore the sight very well and could only detect a few colors like yellow and grey. With this new artificial retina, sight can be restored to near perfect!

Plastic Bridges Support Tanks
Nelson Hernandez III
The United States Army plans to be putting a new, environmentally friendly technique of bridge building in effect. As appose to standard concrete and wooded bridges traditionally use to make bridges, scientists say that new plastic bridges can be used for military uses. These new bridges are mostly made out of old recycled detergent bottles and car bumpers. The older styles of bridges were expensive and took to long to manufacture. With these new plastic bridges, the military can now make them effectively without spending a ton of money. The bridges are usually used to get across rough terrain and rives that normally couldn’t be crossed. They are made of polyethylene and the plastic from the bottles. The result from mixing these chemicals is a super strong material that can withstand the weight of a seventy-three ton tank! It also requires a lot less regular maintenance which saves the government millions!

Newly developed hydrogel heals broken bones and brain injuries.
Nelson Hernandez III
Scientists and researcher at Celmson University have developed a strange new method of healing bone and brain injuries in the form of a hydrogel. It has been tested on lab rats with serious medical conditions. Around twelve weeks after it was applied, their muscle and sensory functions were practically back to its normal state. Some people suggest that it has the power to replace risky surgeries that people need to keep them alive! I believe that this will soon be a practiced method that all doctors use in the future. Although this still needs to go through a few more clinical trails, it will soon be applied in medical practices.

Every year, about 20 to 40 percent of all watermelon crops (360,000 tons a year) are wasted and left to rot on the ground. Now scientists and environmentalist have discovered a use for these discarded melons. It is still going threw clinical trails, but scientists say that the wasted fruit can be converted into 9.4 million liters (2.5 million gallons) of pure ethanol fuel every year. Some people suggest that it has the potential to replace corn and sugar cane (what we are using now). However, the melons may not be as efficient in making ethanol as the combination between corn and sugar cane, but they require a lot less water to be added.

Cure for Color Blindness
Nelson Hernandez III
US teams of scientist have been doing some research and have been successful in curing an adult monkey of color blindness. Naturally, they can’t sense colors like red and green, but now, this monkey can see them. Besides monkeys, scientists also believe that this technique can be manipulated and used to cure humans as well. It was thought to be impossible to rearrange an adult brain like this, but some theories are being changed. They were able to introduce therapeutic genes into the light sensory cells in the back of the eye. Color blindness is usually caused by disease and certain medicine side effects. The scientists and researchers are going to be setting up clinical trails with humans soon, but they are still testing and researching.

MONKEYS BORN FROM DNA TRANSPLANT!!!
MONKEYS BORN FROM DNA TRANSPLANT!!!
BY: Nelson Hernandez
Scientist and researchers alike have been searching for some time for a way for women to avoid passing on genetic diseases and defects. They have been successful in the birth of four healthy rhesus macaques. Although it is not a very safe technique, experts say that this method is new exiting. This experiment involved the transfer of DNA of two of the monkeys, both of the same species. In the future, scientist plan to use this method to stop diseases by stopping defects in mitochondria. About one person in every four or five thousand has a defect in their mitochondria. However symptoms may be things like muscle weakness, dementia, movement disorders, sight and hearing loss, and heart, muscle and kidney problems. This method still need testing before it is practiced.

Blue Lasers Turn Out to be an Autism Cure
Recently, researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that lasers could one day cure or aid the search of a drug to eradicate this terrible disease in our society. They first started testing their lasers one live rats. When applied to their brain, gamma waves, which are necessary for concentration. Fast spiking interneurons trigger these gamma rays. Some signs of autism include attention disorders. Sometimes it is caused from damaged or defective gamma rays. One bad side of this research is that it will take decades before this treatment can be applied to humans

Tocacco Fights HIV?
Recently, scientist has discovered that the tobacco plant has chemicals that may be able to fight HIV. Eventually, it will be seen in the eyes of the public as a good thing, instead of a cancer causing agent. Scientist has also begun making the cure with the certain chemicals in the plants such as griffithsin. The other source of this chemical is in a rare red algae, but it doesn’t supply enough to be effective. On top of that, the cure is going to be quite expensive. Hopefully, in the future, people will be cured from this terrible disease and it will be forever eradicated from this new and effective vaccine.

LEFT 4 DEAD: THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY
BY: NELSON HERNANDEZ III
Left 4 Dead was one of the most highly anticipated games of late 2008. Fans everywhere couldn’t resist the urge to buy this awesome game. The franchise is still going strong and has many new and exiting features that were never even dared to try in the past by other people. For instance, it makes great use of the two character types: Zombies, and Survivors. Zombies have various classes (Boomer, Smoker, Hunter, and Tank,). And those classes have different abilities. For instance, one of the zombie characters is called a Boomer. Its ability is to launch vomit at its prey, and when killed can explode and spew bile everywhere (The bile and vomit temporarily blind the person, and attract a hoard of regular zombies). It’s a pretty cool ability if you ask me. The best part is that each zombie has their own ability. Also, it has a great campaign levels and extraordinary details and graphics. There are four campaign levels and each has five chapters. The campaign isn’t the only awesome feature. The multiplayer can be played online or split screen on the console. The online can be a versus match, where its four humans against four zombies, or campaign were four humans can play a level. All together, this game gets five hungry smokers out of five.
